[Yongin Giheung Food Review] A Heartwarming Korean Meal at “Beomgol Gamaseot Chueotang” 🐟🍲
Hello, everyone! Today, I’d love to introduce you to a cozy and traditional Korean restaurant in Yongin’s Giheung District – Beomgol Gamaseot Chueotang. If you're craving something warm, hearty, and healthy, this is the perfect place. Specializing in chueotang, or loach soup, this restaurant is famous for its rich broth made in an old-fashioned iron cauldron ("gamasot").
Especially on days when the weather is moody or your body feels drained, nothing beats a warm bowl of chueotang to revive your energy. Let me take you through my experience!
📍 Location & Accessibility
Address: 7-1, Hanil-ro 9beon-gil, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea
Parking: On-site and nearby parking available
Opening Hours: Daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM (No break time)
Located near Giheung IC and accessible by car, the restaurant is easy to reach if you're driving. I recommend using your own vehicle as public transport access is slightly limited.
🪑 First Impressions & Ambience
The exterior of the restaurant has a charming, hanok-inspired design with a clean, welcoming vibe. Inside, the space is well-organized, offering both table seating and traditional floor seating. Whether you're dining solo, with your family, or bringing along elders, the atmosphere is calm, tidy, and respectful. During lunch hours, I noticed many regulars – locals, office workers, and even elderly customers.
The staff was incredibly polite and attentive, which made the meal even more enjoyable.
🍲 Menu Highlights – A True Comfort Food Experience
I ordered the Gamaseot Chueotang (₩12,000) and added a side of Fried Loach (₩15,000).
The chueotang was exceptionally smooth – the loach is fully blended, leaving no bones or rough texture. The soup base is a perfect balance of doenjang (fermented soybean paste) and traditional herbs, creating a depth of flavor that’s both hearty and clean. Pour it over rice for a truly satisfying meal. The accompanying kimchi and side dishes were light, crisp, and complemented the main dish very well.
The Fried Loach was a pleasant surprise. Lightly battered and crispy, it made for a perfect savory side. I could easily imagine it pairing well with beer, too!
📝 What Makes This Place Special?
-
No break time: You can visit any time of the day and still get a freshly prepared, piping hot meal.
-
Locally sourced ingredients: All loach is cleaned and prepped in-house, and side dishes are made from scratch.
-
Traditional preparation: The use of an actual gamasot (cauldron) gives the broth an authentic and rich taste.
It’s the kind of place that feels home-cooked, yet professional. The focus on quality and tradition really stands out.
